About
Community with other women of color changed the entire trajectory of my life and started my own journey towards liberation. But in a world where developing relationships of trust with other women of color is rare (especially in the workplace) and gathering in groups of empowering, encouraging, supportive women of color is even rarer, I realized we have to create those opportunities for ourselves. Which is why I launched Your Liberation Coach.
You deserve to be free from all the ways the world holds you back. And you don’t have to go it alone. I am here to walk in the direction of freedom with you. Because, in the words of Fannie Lou Hamer, “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”
My story
Early in my career, even after continually proving that I could collaborate and deliver on projects, set vision for, organize, and train a team, and communicate effectively no matter the situation, “you’d be a great executive assistant” was the refrain I heard over and over. It sounded like a compliment at the time, but now I see what it really was: a ceiling. No one was saying, “these are all leadership skills you’ll use one day as an executive. ” But that would have been equally true.
It took multiple empowering relationships with other women of color who truly saw me and invested in me to make me dare to dream bigger than what I had been offered. And my career then changed from hopping from entry level job to entry level job to being a leader - no matter where I am. No matter what my title is. (I also ended up with a pretty great title but that’s another story). Maybe you don’t want to be an executive. Maybe your big dream to is to be an artist, a surf-boarding instructor or a small business owner.
No matter your dreams, I want EVERY woman of color to have what I’ve had: Someone who sees your incredible potential, someone who will notice and cultivate your strengths, and a safe person who will walk with you as you have the audacity to believe in yourself... even when the world is telling you to stay small.
And no, we won’t solve racism, or sexism or dismantle every system that wasn’t made for us in one coaching session (or even three!)
But you CAN mend from the internalized messages that hold you back, you CAN reclaim your confidence and your energy so that it serves you and your community, and you CAN resist by choosing to value and trust yourself.
